East River Heights Community
East River Heights is a name a few residents have chosen to represent our community. We are located east of the river, Washington, DC. Specifically, we are the group of row homes located in between East Capital Street, CSX Railroad, Benning Road up to the Police station. We are concerned with promoting economic growth and all around improvement in our area and we are no longer taking "wait" for an answer.

Weed Spots???? Ward 7's got what you need.
Well well well, just when I was doing so well in my resolution to be more positive and stay happy. I get slapped in the face with a rotting fish! So the economic development that we have been waiting for in Ward 7 is finally being answered. You guessed it, we ward 7 members will be the proud new owners of a weed dispensary in our downtown area none the less! How lucky are we??? It's unbelievable that we are being blessed with this great and reputable business! I know the rest of the city is so jealous that they are getting Targets, Restaurants, and luxury condo and apartment buildings but none of them are as lucky as we are to get their very own weed spot.Because clearly, we don't have enough and the meth clinic right down the street must be lonely.
What a bunch of crap.
Here is the letter from our ANC Evie Washington. More to come.
HELLO EVERYONE:
I am attaching a letter that I and other ANC Commissioners received this Saturday, 7 January 2012, about
an applicant applying for a license for MARIJUANA CULTIVATION CENTER (which will allow sale and growth
of Marijuana) in the big white building located behind the Subway and Beauty Supply Stores on Minnesota
Avenue, NE. Years ago a Uniform Manufacturing Company was in this building.
I have to send a response back to the Department of Health by 12 Noon on 3 February 2012. I need you to
read the letter and please send me your Comments, Concerns, Ideas, Recommendations, or Suggestions, about
the possiblity of having this Drug Cultivation Center in our community, just feets off our mainstreet in
downtown Ward 7 to me via E-Mail: evieadaptive@hotmail.com or via US Postal Mail: P.O. Box 76388;
Washington, DC 20013 Do you want to encourage additional drug use in this section of town?
As soon as I can reserve a room at the Dorothy L. Height Library on Benning Road, NE, I will facilitate a meeting
so you will have the opportunity to come and share your idea, concerns, recommendations and suggestions.
Let us all work together to make Ward 7 East of the River a Positive, Clean, and Safe Livable Community for our
families, friends, visitors and businesses.
Thank you in advance for your support of our Community and for all anticipated responses. I know we all have
been busy with fighting for the Post Office to remain on Minnesota Avenue. I sent Letters to the Post Master General
and encouraged my constituents to submit the surveys and attend the meeting at the Library about the Post Office. As
soon as I returned from a conference, I had a medical emergency, therefore, I was not able to participate in the efforts
to collect signatures on petitions. Again, we are faced with another challenge. This time the possibility of having a drug
Cultivation Center for distribution and growth come into our community. Please share this information with your neighbors
and friends who are not on this e-mail. Please encourage them to E-mail or mail their concerns and suggestions to me
by 30 January 2012 so I can send a response downtown by 3 February.
Best Regards,
Commissioner, Evie Washington

Shameful.
What took you so long Harry? You should truly be ashamed of yourself for letting it get this far. SMH

WASHINGTON -- Embattled District of Columbia Councilmember Harry Thomas Jr. (D-Ward 5) will resign from office and plead guilty to at least one felony charge, according to WUSA-TV/9 News and other media reports.
Thomas has been under scrutiny for months as his non-profit group, Team Thomas, has been investigated by federal authorities and the D.C. attorney general, who alleges that the councilmember diverted $300,000 in D.C. funds for personal use, including a SUV, golf trips and outings to Hooters.
Thomas's Northeast D.C. home was searched by federal investigators in December, but the councilmember was not arrested at the time.
It's not clear when Thomas will step down, but in an appearance on WTTG-TV/Fox 5 Wednesday morning, WTOP political analyst Mark Plotkin said that he expects the councilmember to leave office within 10 days.
WTOP reports that the "plea agreement with prosecutors is predicated on his resignation."

Reminder on Mayor Gray and Updated location
It appears the Town Hall Meeting scheduled for tonight at 6:30 pm is not at the Dorothy Height/Benning Road Library as previously posted. It is being held at the NorthEast Egypt Center (3937 Minnesota Ave. NE) This is by the post office in the strip mall.
Please try to make it and keep abreast of what's going on and planned for our neighborhood.

Very Important to Read.
A very important message from ANC Washington
GREETINGS EVERYONE!
January 3, 2012 (Tuesday) evening at 6:30PM at the Dorothy Height Library at the
corner of Benning Road and Minnesota Avenue, NE (Across from CVS and Safeway), the
ANC 7A Commissioners will host a Town Hall Meeting with Mayor Gray.
Please schedule your time so you can come out and tell the Mayor what is on your
mind and let him know that we expect the same service as other city residents are receiving.
Let him know WE DO NOT WANT AND WILL NOT STAND FOR A MARAIJUANA DISTRIBUTION
AND GROWING CENTER TO BE LOCATED BEHIND THE OLD SENATE THEATRE.
TELL HIM WE WANT OUR POST OFFICE TO STAY OPEN - TOO MANY SENIORS AND DISABLED
RESIDENTS DEPEND ON THE CLOSENESS OF THAT LIBRARY.
TELL HIM WE WANT A SAFER COMMUNITY AND WE WANT BETTER GROCERY STORES AND
RESTAURANTS
TELL HIM WE WANT DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION STAFF TO KEEP THEIR WORD TO INSTALL A
FULL FUNCTIONING TRAFFIC LIGHT IN FRONT OF THE ALLEN HOUSE DURING THE MINNESOTA
AVENUE GREAT STREETS PROJECT AS PROMISED.
Please pass the word to all your neighbors and family to come to the Town Hall Meeting with the
Mayor Gray on Tuesday, 3 January 2012, at the Dorothy Height Library.
May God Bless you and your family during the year of 2012. Happy New Year!!!!!
Let's Plan to work together to make our community the best in Ward 7 throughout 2012.
Rejoice,
Evie Washington

Minnesota Ave. AGAIN!
Yesterday evening, a pedestrian was hit crossing Minnesota Avenue outside of the Payless shoe store, by the East of River Shopping Center. In other words, in the downtown area of Ward 7. In other words exactly where I said there is a lighting issue that needs to be addressed. (See previous post).
AGAIN, there are too many people in that area to not have sufficient lighting. It breeds accidents, and crime. What part of that doesn't Alexander get? Why is she so damn lazy? How can you not know what the downtown area of your own ward looks like?? And based on what I've seen of the great streets renovation on Nannie Helen Ave., they didn't improve the lighting around there either. What a waste.
And the other day, I had a door tag from her campaign hanging on my front door with her 'Results' nonesense. I see she is doing a lot of campaigning while people are at work. Too afraid of real questions I suppose.

What the hell????????
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/mike-debonis
Kevin B. Chavous, a Democrat running for the Ward 7 D.C. Council seat, was arrested early Friday morning on charges of soliciting a prostitute.
His campaign manager, Lamont Harrell, confirmed the arrest, which he said was part of a “sting operation.”
Is there ANYONE qualified to lead us?????? GEESH

Dear Candidates for Council...How Easy Would It Be?
I dropped my son off at school today, and as I returned, I saw a student from Friendship Academy finish eating his morning sandwich and casually throw the box on the ground like he never gave it a second thought. I watched, and as I could feel myself becoming outraged, I looked around. I couldn't even tell which one was his anymore. Then it hit me. What incentive did he have to not throw his litter on the ground?
Now I am not excusing him, no one should want to live like that and you shouldn't contribute to it. But the trash can at the metro stop was full, there was litter all around. It's not like it would stand out. How easy would it be to get, and keep the streets clean? How easy would it be to mandate that the stores keep the sidewalks in front of their businesses clean? How easy would it be to require Metro to empty the trash cans in front of the metro stops daily? Even if they aren't theirs, surely they realize that they are there BECAUSE of the metro stop. If it's as busy a stop as the one at Minn/Benning intersection, it may need to be emptied twice a day. This is a high traffic, business district. Surely, a CM could require a street sweeper twice a week, right?
I am positive that if the streets and sidewalks were clean to begin with, it would instill a sense of pride in the people who live here and they would think twice before throwing something on the ground so casually. Minnesota Ave and Benning Road look dirty. Period.
Another reason it looks that way is because of the poor lighting. Has anyone ever driven down the street around 6pm? It's like a bad video game from the 80's. There are so many people out there and you can barely see them because there is little to no lighting. It doesn't LOOK safe. Get more street lights on both sides of the street and make it a place that looks inviting rather than sleazy. (Yeah, I said it. I live here and have most of my life and I can say it.)
That is what I will be asking each candidate for Council.
